WUKARI: ALGON Sympathises with Wukari LGC Over Secretariat Fire.

By our Correspondent, January 11, 2026.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Taraba State Chapter, has expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the Chairman and staff of Wukari Local Government Council following a devastating fire that gutted seven departments of the council’s secretariat.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the Chairman of ALGON in the state, Hon. Moses Maihankali, described the incident as a painful setback not only to Wukari Local Government but to the entire local government system in Taraba State.

Maihankali noted that the inferno destroyed offices, records, equipment and other critical working tools, a situation he said would affect administrative operations and service delivery to the people of Wukari. He, however, assured that the association fully understands the shock and disruption caused by the incident and stands firmly with the council at this difficult time.

The ALGON chairman also commended the prompt response of the Wukari Local Government authorities, security agencies and emergency responders, whose swift intervention helped to contain the fire and prevent further destruction.

According to him, ALGON will support the Wukari Local Government Council in the process of recovery, documentation of losses and restoration of the affected departments. He added that the association would engage relevant state and federal agencies, as well as development partners, to explore ways of assisting in rebuilding the damaged facilities and replacing critical working tools and records.

Maihankali further urged staff of the Wukari Local Government Council to remain calm, united and focused as efforts are made to restore normalcy, stressing that the unfortunate incident should not weaken their commitment to serving the people.

“ALGON Taraba State stands in full solidarity with the Chairman, management and people of Wukari Local Government. Together, we will overcome this challenge and ensure that the council emerges stronger and more resilient,” he said.

The fire incident, which occurred at the Wukari Local Government Secretariat, had earlier destroyed seven key departments, raising concerns over administrative disruptions and the loss of vital public records.
