The Taraba State Sports Development Commission has taken a major step toward reviving sports in the state with the inauguration of chairmen of various sports associations at its maiden session held on Wednesday at the Commission’s Hall, Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo.
The inauguration was conducted by the Legal Adviser to the Commission, Barrister Comfort Yubiun, marking the formal commencement of a new era of coordinated sports administration in Taraba State.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Taraba State Sports Development Commission, Coach Bulus Hussaini, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Agbu Kefas for the opportunity to serve and for his vision to reposition sports as a tool for youth development and unity.
According to him, the inauguration of the association chairmen is aimed at strengthening sports development, particularly at the grassroots level, where talent discovery and nurturing begin.
“These chairmen represent critical sectors that will fast-track our operations and help us deliver on our mandate of sports revival in Taraba State,” Hussaini said. “We are determined to ensure that sporting activities thrive across the state, especially among our young people.”
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, George Haruna Shitta, said the decision to inaugurate the association chairmen reflects the Commission’s commitment to inclusive leadership and broad-based participation in sports administration.
He congratulated the newly inaugurated chairmen and expressed confidence that they would continue to support the Commission in its drive to promote sports development across the state.
“At this crucial time, your support is highly needed to justify the confidence Governor Agbu Kefas has reposed in us through this Commission,” Shitta added.
Also speaking, a member of the Commission and former Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria ,SWAN Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, commended the Governor for his passion in establishing the Commission. He pledged continued support for the Governor’s vision to provide Taraba youths with opportunities to showcase their sporting talents.
Responding on behalf of the inaugurated chairmen, Jonah Yakubu, Chairman of the Squash Association, thanked the Commission’s leadership for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their collective commitment to advancing sports development in the state.
“We are resolved to give our best and work tirelessly to promote sports and youth development in Taraba State,” he said.
