ARMY: Taraba Lauds Nigerian Army as 6 Brigade Lights Up Jalingo with Spectacular WASA 2025

By Jako.

Jalingo came alive in colour, culture and commendation on Friday as the Taraba State Government poured glowing tributes on the Nigerian Army during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration of Headquarters 6 Brigade, held at the Jolly Nyame Stadium.

Amid a roaring crowd of soldiers, traditional rulers, security chiefs and jubilant residents, Governor Agbu Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s unshakeable confidence in the Nigerian Army, praising the 6 Brigade for its professionalism, gallantry and steadfast commitment to peace across the state.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Jeji Williams, the Governor declared that the relative peace currently enjoyed in Taraba is no coincidence, but the result of sustained sacrifice by officers and men of the 6 Brigade, working hand-in-hand with sister security agencies.

“The improved security climate in Taraba State is a product of synergy, dedication and shared resolve,” the Governor noted, assuring the Army of continued government support through strategic collaboration, institutional backing and partnerships aimed at strengthening security operations.

He urged troops to remain resolute and disciplined in the discharge of their duties, while upholding human rights and the rule of law, stressing that professionalism remains the strongest weapon in securing public trust.

Earlier, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, welcomed guests to what he described as one of the Nigerian Army’s most cherished traditions. He expressed deep appreciation to the Taraba State Government, traditional institutions and sister security agencies for their unwavering support, which he said has been vital to the Brigade’s operational successes.

According to Brigadier General Uwa, WASA is far more than a ceremonial gathering. It is a powerful platform for unity, morale and cultural integration, allowing officers and soldiers to briefly step away from the rigours of operations and reconnect with Nigeria’s rich heritage.

“Unity in diversity is the backbone of our strength,” he said, adding that mutual respect and inclusiveness within the ranks continue to enhance the Army’s effectiveness in a complex security environment.

The Brigade Commander commended officers and soldiers for their resilience and professionalism throughout the year, noting that WASA also provides a moment for reflection, appreciation of achievements and renewed motivation for future tasks.

The 2025 celebration was a dazzling showcase of Nigeria’s cultural wealth and inter-agency camaraderie. Thrilling cultural dances from diverse ethnic groups thrilled spectators, while an inter-security agencies tug-of-war competition drew cheers and laughter, symbolising growing cooperation. Highlights also included the presentation of awards to outstanding soldiers, the traditional beating of retreat and the lighting of a ceremonial bonfire that capped the night in grand style.

The event attracted an array of dignitaries, including senior government officials, traditional rulers, heads of sister security agencies, Brigadier General J. A. Faransa (Rtd), Zonal Coordinator of NAOWA 6 Brigade Chapter, Dr. Rachael Uwa, senior military officers and other distinguished guests.

As the bonfire crackled and drums echoed into the night, WASA 2025 stood as a powerful testament to strong civil-military relations, rising troop morale and a shared determination by the Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government to sustain peace and security in the state and beyond.
