Christians have been called to renew their faith in the promise of eternal life as they commemorate All Souls’ Day, a day set aside to honour the faithful departed.
The Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Christian Religious Matters, Very Rev. Fr. Sunday Patrick Muke, made the call in a solemn message issued on Sunday in Jalingo.
Quoting from the Gospel of John 6:37–40, Fr. Muke reminded believers of Christ’s assurance that “whoever comes to me I will never drive away… and I will raise them up on the last day.” He said the scripture offers hope and comfort, affirming that death is not an end but a transition into eternal life with God.
“As we remember our departed loved ones,” he said, “may we renew our faith in Christ, who gathers all believers into everlasting communion with the Father.”
The priest urged Christians to let the commemoration inspire them to live lives marked by love, forgiveness, and service, strengthened by faith in the resurrection and trust in God’s mercy.
He concluded his message with a prayer: “May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
All Souls’ Day, observed annually on November 2, is a significant Christian feast dedicated to praying for the repose of the souls of the departed faithful.
