SWAN Taraba Hails Appointment of Former Deputy President, Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo

By Jako,October 16,2025.

The Taraba State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has described the appointment of its immediate past Deputy President, Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, as a member of the Taraba State Sports Development Commission, as well-deserved and timely.

The State Chairman of SWAN, Jude Nuhu Gundale, made the remark when he led members of the association’s executive and other sports journalists on a congratulatory visit to Moyoyo’s residence in Jalingo on Thursday.

Gundale commended Moyoyo’s long-standing commitment and experience in sports journalism, noting that his appointment would greatly enhance sports development in the state. He also lauded Governor Agbu Kefas for his continued support to the media, particularly sports journalists, describing him as press-friendly.

> “We are confident that Moyoyo will justify the trust reposed in him by the governor and work towards taking sports in Taraba to greater heights,” the SWAN chairman said.

Gundale further pledged the association’s unwavering support for the Kefas administration in its efforts to promote sports and youth development across the state.
In his response, Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo expressed deep appreciation to SWAN, describing the visit as memorable and touching. He thanked the governor for finding him worthy of the appointment, adding that it was a historic moment for SWAN as four of its members had been appointed into key positions under the present administration.

> “I am proud to belong to SWAN, and I assure you that I will use my experience to contribute meaningfully to sports development in Taraba State. I will also continue to carry the association along in all matters relating to the commission,” Moyoyo stated.

He urged members of SWAN to remain united and avoid any form of division or parochialism that could undermine the association’s image. He also extended gratitude to the National President of SWAN, Mr. Isiah Benjamin, and the Northeast Zonal Vice President, Ahmed Amshi, for their leadership and commitment to the unity of the association.

Giving a vote of thanks, Linda Gwana, a member of SWAN, said Moyoyo’s appointment did not come as a surprise, considering his immense contributions to sports journalism in the state. She appealed to Governor Kefas to extend more appointments to qualified SWAN members, assuring that they possess the competence and passion to drive sports growth.

The visit ended with prayers for the peace and progress of Taraba State and Nigeria.
