Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have foiled a bandit attack in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering arms and motorcycles in the process.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the troops, on 9 October 2025, received credible intelligence from locals around Majebiyu Village that armed men had invaded the community, shooting sporadically and dispossessing residents of motorcycles and valuables.
In a swift response, the troops deployed from Tapga Ngasawa Village mobilised to the scene and engaged the attackers. On sighting the advancing soldiers, the bandits fled into a nearby bush, reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds.
A subsequent clearance operation in the area led to the recovery of five dane guns and two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to ridding Taraba State of criminal elements and illegal arms.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support security agencies with credible information that would aid ongoing operations to sustain peace and stability across the state.
The Nigerian Army also reiterated its resolve to ensure that all illegally acquired weapons are recovered and that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.
