Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recorded another major breakthrough in their ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in Taraba State, neutralizing terrorist hideouts and recovering weapons, uniforms, and a motorcycle in Ibi Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation was part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa aimed at flushing out terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements from Taraba State.

The statement revealed that on 14 October 2025, troops deployed at Tapga Ngasawa village in Dampar District of Ibi LGA received credible intelligence on the hideouts of suspected terrorists operating around Badekoshi, Fajul, Kurmi, and Dampar villages. Acting on the tip-off, the troops launched a series of clearance operations in the identified areas.

During the raid at Badekoshi, the troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun duel, forcing the criminals to flee towards Fajul village. The army personnel pursued them with superior firepower, compelling them to abandon their positions and retreat deeper into the forest.

A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, one round of 7.62mm special ammunition, five rounds of blank ammunition, two fragmental jackets, two military camouflage uniforms, and one Jincheng motorcycle suspected to have been stolen during a previous attack at Tapga village.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the troops for their professionalism and determination, urging them to sustain the tempo until all criminal elements are neutralized across the state.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace in Taraba State. The statement further assured residents of the army’s readiness to continue collaborating with other security agencies and local communities to restore lasting peace in the region.
