Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has taken another decisive step toward transforming the state’s agricultural landscape with the signing of a new partnership agreement with indigenous firm, Orijin Tech Group, aimed at accelerating large-scale mechanised farming and agro-industrial growth.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Lagos on Monday, will see Orijin Tech Group facilitate the establishment of mechanised farms covering up to 50,000 hectares across Taraba State. The initiative includes the supply of modern farm machinery, advanced irrigation systems, and the creation of commodity aggregation hubs to support the “Produce for Lagos” initiative and expand Taraba’s agricultural value chain.
Governor Kefas, who led a high-powered delegation on a working visit to the company’s headquarters in Oregun and Automobile Assembly Plant in Surulere, said the agreement aligns with his administration’s vision to harness Taraba’s vast natural resources for sustainable development and food security.
During the visit, the Governor held strategic discussions with Prince Samuel Joseph Samuel, Chairman of Orijin Tech Group, focusing on the rollout of farm estates, mechanisation hubs, and aggregation centres in key agricultural zones across the state.
Dr. Kefas commended the company’s commitment to supporting food production in Nigeria, expressing optimism that the partnership would not only boost agricultural output but also create thousands of jobs for youth and women in Taraba State.
> “This partnership will accelerate our agricultural transformation agenda, drive industrial growth, and make Taraba a hub for mechanised farming in Nigeria,” the Governor said.
Members of the Governor’s delegation included Hon. Abubakar Tanko, Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture and Food Security; Prof. Nicholas Namessan, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security; Peter George, Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, and Industry; Hon. Zanau Hassan Maikasuwa, Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security; and Hon. Kabiru Jalo, Chairman, Taraba Investment Promotion Agency.
At the Surulere Assembly Plant, Governor Kefas also toured the production line, reiterating his administration’s resolve to promote local manufacturing, technology adoption, and mechanisation as key pillars of economic diversification.
The visit and the new MoU mark another milestone in Governor Kefas’s ongoing efforts to industrialise Taraba State, boost food production, and position the state as a major player in Nigeria’s agro-industrial growth and national development.
