The United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN) has unveiled a ₦2.5 billion investment aimed at boosting agricultural production, expanding evangelism, and fostering economic sustainability within the church community.
Bishop Ande Emmanuel, who oversees the UMCN Episcopal Area covering Nigeria, Liberia, and Senegal District, announced the initiative during the official launch, describing it as “a statement of faith, a strategic plan, and a legacy for generations to come.”
The investment covers the procurement of two tractors, twelve motorcycles, two Toyota vehicles, as well as computers and printers to enhance communication and administrative efficiency.
Bishop Emmanuel explained that the agricultural component will include the cultivation of 60 hectares of rice farms, the establishment of cattle fattening operations, a piggery project, and the acquisition of 100 hectares of land. According to him, these efforts aim to reduce dependence on offerings, promote financial self-reliance, improve members’ economic well-being, and create job opportunities for youths.
On the evangelism front, the bishop said the funds will support church growth, development, and the establishment of new places of worship in Nigeria’s South-South and South-East regions.
He commended church members for their unwavering support and urged them to sustain their commitment to the mission of the church.
In a brief exhortation, the Dean of Cabinet Affairs, Rev. Philip Micah Dopah, encouraged members to be industrious and steadfast in supporting the church’s growth and development initiatives.
