The Taraba State Police Command has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its readiness to provide adequate security for the forthcoming Karim-Lamido I State House of Assembly bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.
This assurance came during a meeting on August 11, when the Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, played host to the Taraba State INEC Chairman, Alh. Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, at the Command Headquarters in Jalingo.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration and reviewing the security framework for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the polls.
In his remarks, Gajiram commended the Nigeria Police Force for its crucial role in safeguarding electoral processes, noting that his visit was aimed at fostering proactive synergy ahead of the election. He stressed the sensitive nature of all elections, regardless of scale, and the indispensable role of the police in maintaining peace and order.
Responding, CP Otimenyin reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to full collaboration with INEC, highlighting the experience and preparedness of her management team in electoral security. She assured that adequate personnel deployment and robust security measures would be in place, while cautioning that minor lapses in logistics could pose risks in the challenging terrain of Karim-Lamido.
The CP urged INEC to work closely with all security formations for proper guidance and emphasized that the Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process in line with the law.
The Police Command also warned political actors and supporters to abide by electoral rules, vowing to deal decisively with anyone attempting to disrupt public peace or undermine the polls.
The meeting ended with both agencies pledging enhanced cooperation to guarantee the integrity and safety of the upcoming bye-election.
