The Taraba State chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have jointly declared an indefinite industrial strike, set to commence at midnight on Monday, August 11, 2025.
The decision followed a joint State Executive Council meeting of the two labour bodies, held on Sunday at the NLC State Secretariat in Jalingo. The meeting reviewed the outcome of the ultimatum earlier issued to the state government over concerns surrounding the activities of the Biometric Data Capture Committee.
In a joint bulletin signed by NLC State Secretary Comrade Adamu W. Buba and TUC State Secretary Comrade Polina I. Gani, all affiliate unions in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) were directed to immediately mobilize and form strike implementation committees to ensure “efficiency and effectiveness” of the action.
The statement instructed all workers to withdraw their services and stay away from their workplaces until further notice, vowing that the strike will continue until their demands are addressed.
“Solidarity forever,” the bulletin noted signaling the unions’ resolve to press forward with the industrial action.
The biometric data capture exercise, initiated by the state government, has been a source of contention between labour unions and authorities, with workers alleging irregularities and unfavourable implementation practices.
