YOLA — The Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), Dr. Michael Zira, has credited Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration for significantly reducing Adamawa State’s poverty rate from 74% to 60%.
Dr. Zira made this known in Yola while receiving members of the Women Ambassadorial Ministry Michika (WAMIY), Yola chapter, during a congratulatory visit to his office.
According to him, Governor Fintiri’s commitment to citizens’ welfare through various empowerment programs under PAWECA has positively transformed the lives of thousands across the state. “Over 100,000 people were empowered last year alone,” he noted, citing initiatives such as the Fintiri Business Wallet and other grassroots-focused interventions.
He urged the visiting women group to continue to pray for the governor’s success, describing Fintiri as a “leader with a good heart for the people.”
Highlighting the administration’s people-oriented policies, the PAWECA boss listed the payment of WAEC and NECO fees, free primary and secondary education, hospital construction and upgrades, and an ongoing N50,000 cash distribution to citizens through PAWECA as key contributors to the improved poverty index.
Dr. Zira also commended the women group for their visit and expressed readiness to partner with them in furthering their community development initiatives.
Earlier, the WAMIY leader, Mrs. Kwatri, said their visit was to identify with Dr. Zira over the agency’s outstanding performance. She praised PAWECA for becoming a household name in Adamawa due to its tangible impact on the lives of ordinary people.
