UNENDING DARKNESS: TARABA STATE PLIGHT AND THE NEGLECT OF NORTH EAST NIGERIA.
For over a month, Taraba State in the northeast geopolitical zone has been plunged into total darkness, courtesy of the vandalization of electric towers along the Jos and Bauchi highway. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) initially promised to restore power by May 27th, but have since reneged on their promise, citing another instance of vandalization. This excuse has become all too familiar, and the people of Taraba State and North East Nigeria are fed up with being treated like second-class citizens.
The prolonged blackout has brought businesses to a grinding halt, with many forced to close due to the exorbitant cost of alternative power sources. The economic implications are dire, and the people are suffering. The question on everyone's lips is: why were the remaining towers not fully secured amidst the initial vandalization? Is it not the responsibility of the TCN and YEDC to ensure the stability and security of the power infrastructure?
The people of Taraba State and North East Nigeria are tired of being neglected and marginalized. They demand answers and action from the government, TCN, and YEDC. It is unacceptable that a region already beset by numerous challenges should be further burdened by the incompetence and neglect of those responsible for providing basic amenities like electricity.
We urge the government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to address this issue and restore power to Taraba State. The people have suffered enough, and it is time for change. No more excuses, no more neglect. It is time for the government to fulfil its responsibilities and treat all citizens with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Enough is enough!
